Ed Burkholder's broadcasting career started in December of 2005 with his first appearance on TSN's hit show Off The Record with Michael Landsberg. Burkholder has become a fan favourite among viewers across Canada. He currently is a regular guest on the show with more than 65 appearances. In 2007 Burkholder was hired to provide the colour commentary for The Niagara IceDogs on TVCogeco's The OHL Tonight.
Ed produced a one hour special interview with himself and Michael Landsberg discussing Michael's life and experience with depression. The hour long program is called #SickNotWeak Michael Landsberg. With the overwhelming response after the airing, numerous school boards have inserted the interview into their curriculum.
Burkholder is the Head Scout and Director of Player Personnel for the Toledo Walleye of the ECHL. Ed has been with the Toledo Hockey Operations Department since 2003. The Toledo Walleye are the affiliates of the NHL's Detroit Red Wings and Chicago Blackhawks. Ed scouted for the Detroit Red Wings during Toledo's two year hiatus from the ECHL. Ed started his scouting career in 2000 with the San Angelo Outlaws of the WPHL. In 2001, he joined the ECHL's Greenville Grrrowl and worked two seasons there, including the ECHL Kelly Cup Championship in 2002.
After playing three seasons (1986-89) with the Thorold Jr. B Blackhawks, he became head coach of the Welland Midget AAA hockey club and has more than twenty years of coaching experience and running hockey clinics. Ed owns and operates Burkholder Auto Net Work and Burkholder Hockey. The former testicular cancer survivor is a highly regarded guest speaker.
